Late-Breaking Abstracts

In the early days of television, networks used to interrupt regular programming with “cut-in” alerts for major breaking news. These updates would be displayed alongside the regular ticker on the bottom of the screen. Nowadays, we are all familiar with 24-hour news channels that highlight certain stories in special “spotlight” sessions during a program, and the use of lower thirds and other graphics to convey the urgency of a story.

We recognize that high impact research sometimes takes longer than expected to reach the public, and therefore we offer a late-breaking abstracts submission option. The purpose of this program is to highlight important new developments that are of critical importance to the scientific/clinical community and may not have been available by the time of the general abstract submission deadline. These results should be novel (not merely an extension of previously published work) and not serve as confirmation or refutation of other critically important research.

The review process for late-breaking abstracts is more rigorous than that of regular abstracts and accepted late-breaking abstracts will be formally incorporated into the meeting’s scientific programs via both the online Neuroscience Meeting Planner and mobile app. Accepted abstracts in this format will be assigned to specific poster and virtual formats, as well as a dedicated late-breaking posters area in the hall.

Please note that only one late-breaking abstract per presenting author will be accepted. If an author is listed as a presenter on two late-breaking abstracts, they will have to choose which abstract to submit to and present at the meeting. In addition, all presenting authors must be registered for the requisite event and be present at their presenting session.
